Formula SAE® is a student design competition organized by Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE International) started in 1980. The competition provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills. It encompasses all aspects of the automotive industry including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management and finances. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. FSAE competitions are annually held in countries like United States, Germany, Japan, India, Australia, Italy, United Kingdom etc.

At the competition all teams compete in several challenges, both static and dynamic events.
